Sometimes dumb luck is better! hehehe
Had a tournament today and things were lookin' kinda' bleak towards the end of the day. Had 2 fish with an hour to go. No lie, on my scouts honor, I took my plug and slapped it on the water next to the boat to get the grass off of it and low and behold if a 2lb'er didn't smack the snot out of it. It was so unexpected that I actually broke the line as I slung it in the boat on 10" of slack line!
wait... it gets better than that...
With 3 small fish in the boat it was past time to leave for weigh-in and I still had a mile of no wake zone to go through before I could get up on plane. As I'm heading out I look about 40 yards over to my left in time to see what looked like a monster chasing shad so in one motion I slam the throttle into neutral, grab my rod with the topwater prop bait on it, and somehow by the grace of God, able to zing that bait the neccesary distance to land in what I believed to be the beast' last place of residence. PFD on, boat still coasting, and running extremely late for weigh-in, there came an explosion on my prop bait.
Fellas and ladies, no matter how much of a hurry you're in, you just don't crank a 4lb'er into the boat from 40 yards out. You got to negotiate with it. He pulls a little that way, you pull a little this way, and you compromise on a spot in the middle. "Oh Mr. Bass, I only need to inconvenience you for say, oh, 15 minutes at the most and then you can be back on your way...", went somethin' like that.
Either way, he obliged me and I managed to weigh in with 4 fish for 10lbs and a top 10 finish, out of the money, but in top 10.
Just goes to show that someyimes you don't need talent more than you need dumb luck. Take care!
