On a sad and sorry note I was told that at the Garden Road section of the Maurice River, some men were snag hooking trout the night after the stocking truck came. Sad and Sick. One guy said he confronted these jerks and said he would call the authorities, but got nervous after they threatened him, so he had to leave. A friend said that there were dead trout left on the ground. What a Shame! What a Waste! Why would people do such a thing? I only wish that the next time this were to happen, those involved would be caught and swift and stern justice with a hefty fine would be administered. People this callous need to be made an example of so the next idiot may think twice before repeating these senseless acts. I would hope this does not happen often. Most people seem to have respect for nature and it's resources and appreciate it's beauty.
:tbh: :tbh: :tbh:
Lets see, here in Oregon. How many game violations?
1. Fishing for trout after sunset
2. Keeping foul hooked fish
3. Want and waste (leaving fish on the ground)
4. Valid licenses???
5. Over limit???
I'm not positive, but I think the game worden would be well within the law to not only arrest them. But, he could also take all they're gear and they're vehicles. After being found guilty, they would not be able to get a fishing or hunting license, ever again in this state.
A very fitting punishment for the crime if you ask me.
Seems like the game wardens would eat that up. I am sure you have called them, maybe next time they can do a little sting operation. If they don't, go there with your video camera and get some proof.
I did call the New Jersey State Division of Fish and Wildlife. The only problem was I was not there when it happened, so I could only give a "what I heard" kind of report. They were very interested but since I couldn't give them any specific information, they just told me they have wardens in the area and would keep their eye open for any violators. I wish I was there because I woldn't have thought twice about turning these punks in. As for the person who was present, he thought that confronting these individuals would help, but soon realized that to be a big mistake since these punks threatened him. Maybe he did call, or, maybe he thought that he may be there alone the next time and these individuals would make good on their threats. I don't blame him. But like they always say, don't confront violators, call and let the authorities do it.
here is what i try to do when i go fishing alone and other cars are around , i wright down lic. plates right when i pull up then if my car gets broke in to or i'm killed by some crazy sob, or i see someone poaching i have the tag number already, i figure if i get confrounted and loose a fight, i will have a good clue to who done it or a possible witness too?
i dont confrount anyone on the trail or water, thats asking for it if you ask me.... you have to realise that you are dealing with people who don't know any better and at the first sign of you confounting them they will want to fight, it's all they seem to know ????
owe yea , other people might have writ`n you lic. number down too? so don't shoot no one unless your sure no one saw you.... :tongue2:
i want to do a sting on some car vandals here, park a car with a stereo in it and wait in the bushes with some luisville sluggers and maybe a buddy or 2 with a 12ga in case`n things go wrong....but thats the young buck in me....
With that said, in this day in age - you don't know who is carrying a weapon. It is better off to get as much info on the poachers as possible and leave it to the DNR/Police. Wirte down or take a pic of their car plate and/or boat numbers, and get a description of the poachers.
yep steath i even wright down lic. plates at the groucery strore, if you look suspicious...I probably wrote down 10 lic.plates of cars stopping in frount of the house to talk on the cell phones(i think), now that you can't drive and talk on your phone legaly with out being hands free, people just pull over where ever and talk for a hour or so, i have no clue what they are doing weather they are scoping out the house doin drugs up to no good or just talking on the phone? so i just write um down incase...
i gotta take a buddy fishing from now on, cugar have been spotted very close to my bank fishing spots, dfg can't do anything cuz the lions haven't hurt anyone? next time i go fishin i'll thro a steak in my buddies back pak... that should be funny if he's not hurt to bad...lol just kiddin
maybe them cats will take out some of the poachers who keep trout when not allowed...that would be kinda ironic, i would fight to save the cats if they did attack a poacher carrying non legal fish....
Well here is what I would do. I would just get my big game pole out and put on my grapling hook on with 100lb test line. I then get in my vehicle and "accidentally" back into them knocking them far into the river. I then play the snagging game with them and see how much fun it is.
I never approach anyone doing anything wrong. People get shot over silly things. Gal on facebook split up with her hubby and changed her status to single and he went to her house and murdered her with a butcher knife.
I say plate numbers is the best bet and contact game warden if possible as soon as possible. And yes they can take away all your gear. And I would if I was one. You can give a warning, but they will just come back and do it again.
Best thing to do in this situation is to record plate numbers and leave without confronting them and then call the DNR and give them the information. This is the only safe way to do this, When I was stationed at Ft. Drum you would see this on the Salmon streams on occassion. It's the only safe way to deal with them,The DNR would take all equip. and vehicles along with taking them to jail. Lou
people like that suck. hopefully those guys are the once a year get trout for the freezer type and they'll be gone. Or they get caught raying:
Here in FL 2 guys got caught with 2 bass over the limit (7 total), one oversize , and 2 under. They took their truck , boat , tackle and I believe they were fined 2-3k$ each and there was also some jail time involved. They dont play down here.
Come on guys , use powerbait like everyone else, catch your limit in 30 min and go home.
