I spent about a year posting and responding to inquiries on the BASS Insider board. Like Jim, I lost a lot of hours trying to support that board with information not available anywhere else, when the board was reconfigured in October and everything went into cyberspace somewhere. However some folks did stay and have continued to share information that maybe of interest to basshole members. I'm one of the originators of the calendar periods and offered that information to Ray Scott back in 1974 before In-Fisherman started. Ray's response to me was "bass are not predicable" and he had no interest. If you are interested in some of this calendar period information; like Rhythm, Oldschool, prespawn, spawn/post spawn, Summer, fall and winter periods, then I invite you to visit the board and print off whatever is of interest. This may be a way of you knowing who I'm a little faster. The year is ending and I feel the information will be deleted again. http;//boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb?sport=outdoors/bassmaster/community&id=bassinsider

My issue over there is it's a poor investment of time. No sooner than you answer a question and it passes to page 2, someone else asks the same question. The two of us figured out it was reasonable to guide those repeat deals to the search tool. I used the tool to customize some answers. Those answers over a month or two old are subject to being erased, so you start all over giving the same advice, on and on. The number of active posting members is a lot higher than here, which we hope to see changed, so it's tempting to just keep writing there. But I just couldn't get over that loss. They need to come here, and in fact some are joining. The old board is hopeless with too much non-fishing chatting, simply a little group of buddies. Nothing wrong with that at all, but folks looking for fishing information will be disappointed.

Why not re-post that calendar info here? It would remain permanently. We do appreciate your involvement here, Tom.

To much haten goin on over there! I don't think its worth the hassle. They are very rude to the females on that site also I wasn't raised that way. Drew
Is your name the same over there ? ( That way I know what to look for )

also I must be blind or something, I dont see a ' search ' button over there.

Jim, Certainly not trying to recruit or suggest anyone to become a member, you can log on and read without jioning. I guess i'm getting a little lazy and did not want to start over and repost all the info..again.

1tfyoung, I'm not suggesting that anyone should join, just visit look around. As Jim suggested I will repost some of the stuff when time allows.

There is a lot of youngsters on that board under 15 and their immaturity shows at times. I'm suggesting that you visit, not join. After the first of the year I will more than likely put more effort on this board as I get to know how to use the tools etc.

The search tool is on the very bottom of the page. You can search ESPN for other sports, or stay searching in Bassmaster. However, the new search engine isn't very useful. I tried to find Tom's calendar and didn't. The other problem is the database to be searched has twice been yanked, so not much pops up anyway. Before the slashing you could find enough about most topics to write bass book chapters on each topic. How I wish all that work had been put here! It's no different than writing a book on fishing, at the point of editing and adding current information, then coming home to find the pc stolen, and there are no backups.

As for the youth coming on with constructive comments, right or wrong that's something I want to see. I've had a lot of teen boys fishing, and it was just RARE to find one that has started thinking for himself. Most are tight-lipped and won't look you in the eyes. I had to be corrected for that around age 13 by my fishing partner, Grandpa. They need to mix and mingle with men to learn how to grow up right.

If they are willing to contribute, challenge AND be corrected, I welcome that. I miss those mentoring years, making boys into men, but these days you can't safely say and do what needs to be said and done. I wouldn't dare saying anymore "When you talk to a man look him in the eyes so he can tell whether you're a girly sissy boy or what." He might sue these days. ::) Way back 'when' they could be made into good fishin partners pretty quick. Thank goodness there are lots of youth organizations where adults can get involved and enjoy it. There isn't much interest in that here in Hot Springs.

The search tool was a victim of the October purge. You can click on my name "1tfyoung" and page through all the posts looking for the titles, I believe pages 2 through 8 will contain them. The loss of the search tool and hundreds of posts is the reason most members bailed out. I will post the info on this board over the next few weeks. The calendar was broken down into separate categories listed earlier.
Tom
I went back and could bits and pieces referring to page 2, but apparently that was when page 2 was page 2. Now they are scattered to page 9 or so. In the past you could locate a post and click to enter the thread, but now the whole thread doesn't open up. I had to completely re-enter the site and manually search the pages for the threads. Too much work. It probably won't be a good idea to promote the search tool there like we were doing.

Arkie,The haten I'm talking about is not from the teenagers. Its from the so called board of 'He who has the most posts'.

The youngsters is what we should be focusing on, they are the future. I believe Jim had the most post and I would be second....so what is your point?
Tom
My point is that you are rated by your status quo he who has the most quotes is the king. There is too much BS about everything but fishing . I not saying that the youth is not the focus but it is not the youth ruining that site it is all the kings who rule it. If you are being productive,I'm not talking about you its the people who are belittleing the females, that are trying to be a part of something. How productive is that to our youth? Big deal that you have 1000 post if 999 of them are crap. ( I'm not talking about you or Arkie I'm talking about the other 90%. I had 500post over there and half of them had nothing to do with fishing.) And here I am over here to get away from that shit and i'm having to defend myself.

I would drop by the insider sometimes mostly just to read the tfyoung stuff and thats how I learned about the basshole website. I'm on a few other local and national sites but I really like the format of this one. I like how the main page and the new post section is setup, its great. A  guy by the screen name Ranger Rob wrote some intense stuff over on the other board but he isn't around anymore. Thats why I like checking out the "oldschool" post here for such in depth articles. One of our members made a website and posted some of the old Ranger Rob topics that he was able to salvage for others to read. Ranger Rob was and maybe still is a guide on lake Okeechobee some of you from the south may know who he is (I personally dont). Heres the link.. Ranger Rob some stuff may be a little hard to read but its got some great info. Also for any NW basser on here or any one else a guy named Bruce Middleton writes a great monthly article that always has good reading info.. Bruce Middleton . Enjoy

Yea the disadvantage of being on these forums is running into the few people that wan to ruin it for all of us. But, the reward of reading great info from some unbelievable bass anglers is GREAT!
Except for a departure into politics an religion for a month the great majority of my total 1.200 posts on combined newer INSIDER and the original Bassmaster forum were technical bassing posts. One guy there collected all of them and contacted me about making a fishing book out of them. I pretty much ignored that, writing a book from scratch much easier than piecing posts together. The point is I was serious about fishing talk there, and continue with that attitude here. You won't see many chit-chat posts from me anywhere. Tom and I teamed up, covering each other's backsides, filling in information that needed to be added to perfect answers from some members intent of getting serious answers instead of layers of garbage talk. We each come at situations from different perspectives, his majoring on western methods, mine from southern perspective. I've been doing this 20 years and never found anyone so compatible. We never compete, but try to cover the whole spectrum of possibilities as much as is within us. All of us need to become a team like that. Some of our original members rarely or never post anymore. What a loss of valuable experience!

My wish? This board focusing on bass fishing at least 90%. Few visitors will be interested in member's favorite football scores and small talk. We see that everywhere. Thebassholes needs to be a premier bassing site filled with something constructive about fishing every day. If it isn't there visitors will move on. Just think about all the stuff about bassin we have to talk about!

I couldnt agree with you more Jim
The main reason that I have joined this board is because of Jim and his ability to communicate at every level. I enjoy reading his postings and responses as much as everyone else, he is special. Seize the opportunity to share your questions and experiences with him, there are no guarantees how long this will last.
Tom
Hey, Ouachita, how bout them cowboys? LOL. I agree, let's talk fishin'. (Although I may throw in the occasional BS)
