I took the grandkids out on the Rainbow River for several hours Sunday. We launched the boat in Dunnellon on the Withlacoochee and motored up past the KP hole on the Rainbow. By that time my grandson Nathan had eaten all five of the sandwiches and most of the cheese crackers we had brought for snacks. His Mom tried to feed him before we left but he wasn't hungry. I'm gonna have to get a bigger boat to bring food enough for this growin boy. Luckily his sister Magan eats like a little bird. I caught a bunch of small bass&bream casting 1/32 oz jigs with orange Maki "Drag-N-Mags"&"Wormi's". These Micro plastics are the ticket on this clear water spring fed river. I was the only one that caught any fish. Nathan caught lots of tree limbs and dock posts and he and Magan swam circles around the boat during most of our trip driftin back down the river. Here's a few pics of the adventure.

Sounds like your grandson and i have something in common... our appetites ;) I think a sandwhich just doesnt taste any better than it does when you eat it while on the water! :thumbup01:

Those are some pretty fish. They have great color to them.

Is that reel in the image a rear drag cardinal? If so, those are some dependable reels. I have a couple of them that are older than I can remember. Great reels, especially for the price!

I'm not sure what brand that reel is but its a tuff old dude. It was layin in the corner of a buddys cowpen on a broken rod. I was teasein him about the way he treated his fishin gear and he gave it to me. I cleaned it up and put it on a Zebco med.action rod I bought for five bucks at a yard sale. The only writing I can read on it is Graphite. I've caught a bunch of fish with it and I use it on trips with the kids when I don't use my good gear. One of my good ultra-lite rods bit the dust yesterday when the boat drifted into the trees. :wack:

That happens more often than I like to think about. :dunno: I've got two spinnin reels and a casting reel lookin for new rods. Guess I need to start runnin the yard sales before it gets to hot. Its amazing what you can buy at these retirement communitys when those little old widows are sellin off their husbands stuff. I bought a tackle box like that once for $15. It had $300 worth of stuff in it. I lost almost 2 or 3 hours sleep over that deal. LOL

Do you remember the commercial I think it was for Shakespere? I can't remember now, anyway the old timer is talking and sitting in his aluminum boat waiting for his grandson to go fishing with him. At the end you hear the kids footsteps and the grandpa with some chagrin tells the "boy" to get in the boat. This boy who must be 300lbs steps into this little boat and the grandpa has this priceless look on his face like what am I doing this for? ha ha. It was a cool commercial. That is what this reminds me of. :D

Good report. I have seen that river as my dad lives near Dunnellon but I have never fished it. One of these days. That is the river that Glen Lau filmed his 2 movies Bigmouth and Bigmouth forever in in case anyone wanted to know that :)
