I finally got to go pike fishing when I went up to Vermont with the girlfriend to her folks' place for Independence Day. I found that a pike will snap 10# mono (WTF was I THINKING!) and 17# fluorocarbon like a twig. I lost a senko knockoff in the first hour when I saw something that looked like a baby gator head snap my line near the shore. I tied on a 1/4 Blue Fox strobe spoon and caught him. I lost what felt like a good one on a 1 Mepps Agalia. I couldn't get them to bite on a rod with a steel leader. The next day I had a pike hit a BPS creature bait but not bite and lost a 4 pounder 10 feet from sure on a red Diamond Shad. 19 hours of fishing targeting pike and I only lost two lures. Not bad. Also caught nine smallies so that was fun.
