Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, Local Legislators To Host Public Meeting on Dutch Fork Lake Reconstruction

The meeting will be held in Washington County on Aug. 8 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Claysville Community Center, 212 Main Street, Claysville PA 15323. It is free and open to the public.

PFBC staff will provide an update on the rebuilding of Dutch Fork Lake and will discuss how the fishery will be reestablished. PFBC Executive Director John Arway will discuss the agency's Natural Gas and Water Access Program and the decision to sell natural gas from beneath the Dutch Fork property.

"It's important for the public to understand the decision-making that took place before we entered into the agreement," said Arway. "It's equally important for the public to know that the Fish and Boat Commission is dedicated to maintaining the ecological and recreational integrity of the lake and the surrounding lands under our stewardship."

All money from the Dutch Fork Lake contract and other natural gas agreements will be deposited into a special account where they will be used to fund efforts to repair or rebuild Commonwealth-owned high-hazard, unsafe dams managed by the PFBC. The PFBC is responsible for managing dams which need approximately $46.5 million in repairs, and the Natural Gas and Water Access Program is one way of raising the funds to fix these facilities so communities can continue to enjoy them.

Sen. Solobay and Rep. Daley will be available to answer constituent questions on these and other local issues.
