Pegging Weights

There seems to be quite a few options for pegging weights these days. An angler can buy the plastic weight pegs, he can use bobber stoppers (Like Ike does), he can use toothpicks (only recommended on braided lines) and the list goes on. However, over the last 2 decades I have been using a method to peg weights that I find to be the safest and most economical way, bar none.

I buy myself a bag of rubber bands and use those to peg all my weights, when I want them pegged that is. The bag will last for a long time. As a matter of fact that rubber bands will more than likely begin to dry rot before you ever use them all, but at a buck a bag of 100, which will peg 1000 or so weights, you can't beat it.

Here is an illustration I made a couple years ago, showing how i use the rubber band to peg the weight.

To peg the weight is very simple. After you tie your hook to the line, save the tag end you cut off your line. Run it through the weight, like illustrated above. Then run the piece of rubber band through the loop of line you just created. Grab the tag pieces of line together, wet the rubber band with saliva, then slowly pull the two tag ends of the line, drawing the loop closed and pulling the rubber into the weight with it. Once the rubber is in the weight, pull the line out and snip the rubber flush to the weight.

Not only does this peg your line nicely, but it also creates a cushion that will protect your knot from being bashed by the weight.

What size rubber band to use, you will have to experiment with. I have noticed different brands sizes arent all the same thickness. The rubber bands I use are about 1/32" thick.

The first time you do this, it may take you a couple minutes or so to get it done, but after you do it enough, you will be able to do it in the dark in a few seconds.

Try it out and let me know what you think :D

Thats exactly what I do. Although I just bought a box of the rubber peg strips. When you use one I cut it off as short as possible and use it again.

Date : Todays Date 4/13/2007 , Product was used through out the Summer of 2006
Manufacturer : D & W Lure Company

Where Tested : Farm Ponds of Pennsylvania

Product Designer : Chuck Ditto .... the Product we can buy today is after four year of research and many , many different designs .......

Introduction: The Parasite Weights and Clips are changing how we fish for Bass as we speak. The Parasite Clip and or Weight , once in place holds the plastic lure in place so it will not move off your hook. The Parasite Clips and Weights will save
Anglers money by saving them lures that normally would have been lost. It also
allows Anglers more time to fish. No more stopping to fix your lure. This product is for everyone that fishes . From Tourney Anglers to the Novice Angler , they all can take to the advantages the Parasite Clips and Weights provide . You wont be sorry that you have either .

The Product : Comes in 4 different classes
the Parasite Clip - is used for a weightless presentation and they come 10 to a pack
the Lead Weight - comes in the following weights : 1/2, 1/4 , 1/8 , 1 , 3/16 , 3/4 and 3/8 ..... weights are in ounces
the Tungsten Weight - comes in 1/2 and 3/16 (ounces)
Painted Weights - comes in the following weights : 1/2 , 1/4 , 1/8 , 1 , 3/16 , 3/4 , and 3/8 (ounces) the paint choices are either Black , Green Pumpkin or Red

Red come in 1/2, 1/4 , 1/8 , 3/16 , and 3/8
The weights come 4 to a pack .

Whats great about the Tungsten weights is there not harmful to the enviroment .
As more and more States apply laws governing lead use age for fishing products
Tungsten is rapidly becoming more and more used .

First Impressions : I was introduced to this Product in the Summer of 2006 by Doug Cavin . When i first used this product I was impressed from the Get Go.
I thought WoW !!! What an awesome idea. Not only could I cover more water
since I didn't have to stop and refix my bait . But my bait lasted longer. And I caught more fish...... I'm Sold ....... My tacklebox wont be without these again .

Equipment used during the test :

Rod : Rhino Indestructible - model RNS662MW-VMA5
Reel : CS 1000 Challenger
Line : Stren Dura Tuf 10 lb Test

Construction : The Construction of each Product is superb . The Clips are a single piece of Wire . The Weights from my take have been poured over the wire and the seal between the two is complete . I could be wrong but thats how I think they were made ..... Is this a problem , heck no ....... During each Hookup I got the product did not in any way hinder the Hookup .

Durability : I have yet to break one or lose one .... I fish heavily structured ponds
with Rocks , Trees , Stumps .... you name it ..... its in there ......

Design : This product is what it is ..... Designed to help catch fish .... and thats exactly what it does ...... Its a time saver and money saver . Anyone that uses this product will reap from its advantages.

On the Water : The Parasite Clips and Weights are Multi - Functional and serve many purposes ....they are made for Plastics specifically .... I was using a 2/0 hook but I think you can use any size of hook from a Octopus to a EWG ....

Presentations : You can do just about anything with this product . You can fish it weightless by using the Clips . Or if you want to use the Weights you can punch it through a weedbed . Its very useful in all applications .
