This is unbelievable. Watch this video. This guy will owe multi millions in damages. What an A-Hole. Sorry but this bugs me. I used to live right by this lake and have fished it quite a bit. The lake is permanently ruined now.

have they said who did it yet? Why was this allowed to happen with all of the people that live on the lake? 6000 trees dont get cut down in a weekend, something seems fishy about this whole story. Were they all cut at night. I find it hard to beleive that no one saw this happening. I want to know more about this.
I agree Micro.

How could someone not notice trees being cut down. Ok maybe you dont notice 2 or 3... or even a dozen.. but I would think that the first 100 would have tipped someone off unless the DNR or Rangers there are in hibernation.
Stuff like that sickens me! It makes me think of how they lobbied and got the grass eradicated on Santee Cooper. "They" meaning non anglers... pleasure boaters and home owners.
I cant help but feel like some LARGE organization/business is the one responsible for what happened to the 6000 trees. Im looking forward to hearing who did it.
And some five dollar starving to death ******* trying to feed his addiction will pay the price and the corporate dicks will walk.

Here are a few articles about this also:

This is most likely a land developer and he wanted to sell lots with better lake views and not tree views.
This is the first that I have heard of this but I live in NC do I dont see what happens in Texas often. I do have to wonder though if someone in the wildlife or what ever it is that patrols this area was on someones payrole if you know what I mean. It sounds like it happened in 2005 so have they not named the people still? Did they just catch the people recently?
Whoever it was is a world class idiot. I agree with LCY and Mikrotek, somebody got paid off. I'm glad they caught the idiot, and I hope they hang him out to dry.

Yep. A name or names is suppossed to be revealed this week.

Remember the game Wardens where dispatched to Louisianna to help out for hurricane Katrina. This is why they didn't patrol areas like this.
somebody got the perfect time to do it then. Makes you wonder if they had been planning it before the hurricane. It took I would say at least 50-100 people to cut that many trees. They got it done fast.
It won't matter about who, as they will walk and get a minor slap on the pocketbook. Notice they are "negotiating restitution". I predict some trees will be planted at the expense of the criminal, and that's it. Then, when nobody is looking, the new trees will be mysteriously vandalized and nothing more will come of it.

I really hated to hear that when it happened :cussin:
I had fished that lake in Oct. of 2005 and got to go back after that S*** happened.
I'm glad they were caught and like the rest of us, I never could figure out how they did it without being busted.
I once lived near there and fished it often. What a shame--h##@--CRIME! Had to be a jet sking club :dunno: This is a travesty. :(
There is no way in hell that someone could cut that many trees and nobody saw or heard them or thought something was odd about what was going on, if they did see them. The guy on the news clip was complaining about the debri around his property ? A person with half a brain would have started to ask questions of the proper authorities long before that many trees were felled. It's a shame but no punishment will ever replace that habitat. Makes me want to throw up.
So is there an update on this situation? What happend to the people that did it??
I will have to search on anther forum at home since it blocked here at work.
Yes he was caught and it was actually in the news yesterday. It was a real estate developer and he has been fined something like $630,000.

I meant to post the article and got busy at work and forgot. It was on Yahoo just yersterday. I will keep looking for it again.
