How big do the 'eyes in Erie get? I live down in the South, in Georgia, so if I were ever to get the chance to get up there, not only would I fish for smallmouth, but I would try to get a couple of eyes for dunner one night.

What did you catch them on?
Way to go Sir Catch Alot!
I havent been able to fish for walleyes in the lonest time!

John, Id have to say Walleyes on Erie get as big as walleyes can get anywhere. Im pretty sure there are world record walleyes swimming around Erie.

I have never caught a walleye nor a smallmouth bass. Where have I been. I need to get out more and with a boat. LOL
How did you get those walleye if you dont mind me asking?

Not asking for specifics, just downrigging, flatlining, jigging or casting?

On this side of the lake we need to downrig in order to get Lake Erie walleye. It's rare to get them doing anything else unless they are running the rivers.

Anyways, congrats on the good fishing. :)
thx guys...sry for repling so late been on vac. for a while.....we caught them trolling with spoons...in the ohio part of lake erie...they were biut smalll all about 17 inches....the biggens which are like 10 lbs are probally there in a few weeks...but i had fun catching them...even a few lil white bass (as my uncle called them junk fish! lol)

I have acually got a job offer as a 1st mate on a charter...but it is 2 far away 2 be driving up there at least 3 times a week and very hard work!
Rich, you should talk to Walleyemen, a new member from NAFC, he does pretty good
hEY JIM I MADE IT OVER,OOPPPS DARN CAPS LOCK!! LoL
good to see ya, Doug :pop-r:
Now is the time to hit Erie for some really nice eyes. They fish the western basin hard around the reefs for the walleyes. Last winter a guy I know pulled up a 12 pound eye through the ice....now that would be sweet.

Lake Erie is the walleye capital of the world......it IS the WALLEYE MECCA!!!!!!!

There is some great walleye fishing for sure in erie! But still way to much ice out there for me, i usually wait until the second week after they let the ice boom go, then most of the ice has gone down the river and over the falls.I find everything works in erie for eyes, dipsies, down riggin, and even flat lining, just depends what the pods of fish are doing, having a good understanding of your sonar is a must, running dipsies and flat lining around the reefs is my favorite way to fish them. :fishing01:
From everything I am hearing, the lake is a mess right now. Muddy as chocolate milk, strong easterly winds. The cancelled the tourny from what I heard.
I have a camp up in Erie right on the lake.Catch walleye up to 13 lb. The lake is fantastic but one thing you must remember" That lake can kill you." Small mouth up to 7 lbs. My wife does a good job of kicking my butt! Recommend it highly. But watch the weather at all times. Any questions just ask.
I think I know a walcat from around :thumbup01:
