LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 7 INCHES, 85 DEGREES AND CLEAR
Bass fishing is fair and the top water bite is good right at daybreak. Up at the 72 bridge, run up into the river and find the small pockets and cast into the coves with a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce buzz bait. Throw the bait as far back into the pocket as you can and repeat this several times. Follow any missed strikes up with a spinnerbait and double willow blades preferred and a Texas rigged green pumpkin worm. By mid morning, you need to concentrate your efforts on main channel points that drop off into deep water. Throw a Carolina rigged four inch dead ringer worm on light line and work it slow around these points. By mid afternoon use a drop shot rig in 30 feet of water. Locate stumps on your graph and go to it. Fish the shady coves and around rocky points. The fish are moving deeper and into a summer pattern. Fishing main lake points with a Carolina rigged finesse worm or a Spot Remover is a good pattern for spotted bass, and if you want to catch largemouth in the same areas try a Carolina rigged Zoom pumpkinseed lizard.
