I need help from all of you who have been messing around in this hobby for a while. What all do I need and what is the best quality/easiest to work with? I can't ever find exactly what I want and finally gave up in favor of tweaking a bait to fit where I fish, not someone elses lake. When dipping the head of a spinnerbait in powder to color it what's the best method considering there's a wire in the way? Dipping a jighead is selfexplanitory. Thanks all.

Make a fluid bed you can't beat it. It is fast , simple and puts on a thin smooth coat all the time. Fluid bed is for all one color applications and a base color for jigs. I have plans if you want. PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you.

I concur...I did jigs for a couple of winters without a fluid bed. Now after having used them for a winter, I would agree, it is the only way to go...I can't help on the Spinnerbaits, being as I only do jigs...

Already sent Ted an email. Now I need to find some trailers suitable for the swimjigs I'm going to make. Clear with bloody speckles and white with bloody specs.

Making your own baits is a lot of fun, if you have the time, money and the space. People assume "I willl make my own and save money" BUT eventually you will be ahead of the game however in t he start, you will be wayyyyy behind the eight ball and spend much more than you would if you were just to buy premade jigs from someone like Bass Assault or SWAG.
However, nothing can compare to the enjoyment you get from catching fish on your own home made baits :tu

The issue I'm running into with premade jigs is finding them exactly how I want them. And it seems everyone prefers the eye candy of the silicone skirts when I've seen the round rubber skirts outperform the "eye candy" time and time again. Now I need to find all the right trailers for them after I make them. Will probably take one of each color combo into my local tackle store, plop them on the counter, and tell them to hook me up :wack: :baitmonkey: Also have some ideas to get the spotted bass chomping.

They look good, keep it up and you will narrow it down to just a few colors. Try mixing rubber with silicone, it works, tie the rubber on first then the silicone.

Look into Starflash skirts, for me they are the closest thing to round rubber I can get.
