Went on that relaxing mid week fishing trip yesterday and here's how it went --
To get you Bassholes in the Mood, the water temp was 57F, light wind, dingy water and barometer was 29.7 and holding steady, air temp approx 81F!
Was fishing a mixed grass and dead wood Cove on the North end of the Lake, It was absolutely beautiful!! Didn't get to the lake till late 3pm but it was very nice and the weather was great, Almost perfect, I thought as I pulled into the cove.
I shut the big motor down and jumped up to start working a swim bait through the stumps. Cast after Cast, I know the next one is THE cast that will start it all off and I have a great day at the lake. Never came, so around 5:00 I seen some movement in the weeds and my first thought was that has to be a gar, but what the heck I say, not doing anything with this swimmer. I troll over close to the grass and flip and salt craw where I had seen the movement with no luck and work the holes in the grass for almost an hour. Remember, no fish, I'm really starting to wonder what is going on, I know the fish are in this area, they shouldn't be tight due to the pressure is down, the water temp is great pre-spawn, I am surrounded with 6' Deep water close to a 18.5' creek, I mean what more could a BassHole want??
Well, I see another big roll in the mixed grass and reach down fast to grab my rod rigged with a plastic frog and grabbed the wrong pole, not thinking i had picked up my 7.5' with a white herb's dilly tied onto 80lb thread left in my box since last year, halfway through the cast I get the biggest bird's nest I have seen in years, of course, this reel has no oil or grease, been locked up in a boat for the Winter and I'm casting it on my one chance of the day to catch the biggun! I know this back lash is never going to come out so i start hand pulling the braid to get my dilly back and BAM, IT GETS BLOWN INTO THE AIR! Pull, Pull, Pull, Cut, tie, OUCH, tie, cut, cast, shew I got it back out there! Now Guys and Gals, from there on, it's a fish story, was dark at 7:45 and I had boated 12 bass, from 1lb to almost 6lb's. Absolutely a blast, Herb's Dilly saved the day, at the very end I had to troll in and get it back off of a log, all those fish where in 2 foot of water, amazing this time of year, never would have believed it!
Thanks Luhr Jensen, and from one BassHole to another, I hope you all have atleast one of these days very soon!!
Cya on the Water!
