Sounds like you need to a Defrag Rodney.

First thing you need to do is to clear all Temp Internet Files.
Then go to Start and type %temp% and hit Ok. You will get a window titled Temp to open. This is your Temporary files folder (different than you temp internet files) Delete every file in this folder. If it says some files cannot be deleted then reboot and repeat this procedure and they will all be able to be deleted this time.
After you do that do this:
Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmentor and run this. It will take a while for this to run... could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. But this is a VITAL step in proper and healthy PC maintenance. As you use your PC daily files are loaded in and out of your memory and moved around on your hard drive... this breaks the files up into many pieces... which in turns makes your computer work harder to read the files. A single file can be stored in 100s of pieces in 100s of different locations on your hard drive. The computer taker longer than normal to do simple tasks like starting up etc... is the first sign that your hard drive needs a defrag. Typically a person should defrag their PC atleast once a week. If you havent done a defrag in a long time (or ever) you could notice a HUGE difference in PC performance after you complete your defrag.

Good luck and let me know how it goes. It should work.. hard drives dont usually die that easily. If defrag doesnt work Id do a spyware scan and a virus scan next.
