Freshwater fishing is free April 7-8

Here's a freebie for anyone fishing in Florida's freshwaters April 7 and 8: you don't need a fishing license. It's free fishing during the first full weekend in April in the state's freshwaters.

"Free fishing days means you don't need a license to fish in freshwater lakes and rivers during this special weekend," said Sam McKinney, regional freshwater fisheries biological administrator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Northeast Region.

Anglers fishing in saltwater will still need a license.

To help promote the enjoyment of freshwater fishing and give anglers the chance to take advantage of the peak fishing season, the FWC moved free fishing weekend several years ago from the first week of June, which is National Fishing Week, to the first weekend in April.

"We hope that fishing for free will remind those anglers who haven't fished in awhile how fun and relaxing a day of fishing can be," McKinney said.

To encourage families to go fishing, the FWC and local partners are hosting a free event in Marion County called Tuscawilla Free Family Fishing Day from 8-11 a.m., Saturday, April 7 at Tuscawilla Park in Ocala.

During Free Fishing Weekend, all other freshwater fishing laws and regulations will remain in effect. To learn the regulations, obtain a copy of the Florida Freshwater Sport Fishing Guide and Regulations Summary, available from tax collectors' offices or authorized license agents, and all FWC offices. It can also be found online at MyFWC.com.

Maybe some of the wave-runner owners will take this offer up and afterwards trade it in on a fishing boat :dance01:
