In august I have a big federation tourney out of sandusky on Lake ERIE.What can I expect in the beginning of august.Smallmouth deep or largemouth shallow?
if you want to Win it is usually done deep with smallmouth.you can catch a decent limit without even starting your outboard, tuns of great fishing right in the bay. ( my boat's a 16 footer so i'm usually in the bay).the poor boys gobies that someone recomended is a great choice along with tubes.johnsons island is usually good for large mouth the back side of that island usually produces well also.be carefull on the backside of johnsons as it is very shallow but the weight and numbers usually come from the lake with smallmouth. east harbour is another great place to go for the large mouth.lots of boat docks and grass.( manns one minus in the weeds)The fishing hot spots maps point out lots of the deep water reefs that have always produced well.
when the time gets closer give me a holler and i'll let you know whatever i do
hope this helps.

I'm in the same club with Mike Towe. July has come and gone and here we are almost at tournament day. The tourny on Lake Erie is Thursday, August 9 and 10. Your other advise for the lake sounds great, anything else? I was told the hellgramite hatch takes place in August and makes the bite difficult. Any thoughts on that? What kind of lure best imitates a hellgramite? I tried the poor boy gobies at Sturgeon Bay/Lake Michigan :fishing01:-I got a lot of goby bites drop shotting-no bass. Is drop shot the best technique on Erie? Color choices, weights, and "go to" baits would be real helpful.
Thanks in advance. MIKE U :fishing01:
Hi mike
I'll try to ask around for some extra answerers for you but i am in Florida as of right now and have not even made it up to lake Erie this year.Where are you going to launch from?
Drop shotting the poor boys goby has been the ticket for the last 2 years.any of the darker colors work good. You might want to tie a fat tube on for your drop shot weight, add a rattle to the tube(watermelon/gold flake, tube).
appreciate the info but work got in the way so my alternate had to go,today was the firstt o practice and they did pretty good today.thr tourney starts on thursday I hope their pattern holds up
If you need some help i fish in the cincinnati area and am willing to give reports from the lakes i fish

anyway not to get off topic too much, I am always here and can always give anyone my two cents about the cincinnati area, good bad or indifferent, it is always the best advice i can give. all ya got to do is ask.

and if anyone is ever in the area and wants to get out for a day on the water (or an hour), I cant promise tons of fish, but it wouldnt be from lack of trying, I alwyas have an open seat in my boat for any basshole. and i am alwyas looking for an excuse toi get out.
