Finally got to fish my first tournament of the year yesterday. There was ice on the lake a week or so ago and their was some doubt whether the tourney would happen. A nice warming trend occurred and warmed things up nicely. I practiced 4 days and developed a pattern on suspending crankbaits and jerkbaits that held up all week. Weighed 15.46 lbs. for 4th place and $560 . A Luckycraft 78 pointer was responsible for the better fish and is worth it's weight in gold in 40 to 50 deg. water. A suspending shad rap caught the most fish but they tended to run smaller than the jerkbait fish. I spent 1/2 a day Friday scouting for other areas from what I decided would be my main area, and to reinforce my pattern, and wouldn't you know I hooked up with a fish well over 7lbs. that just would not let go of my shad rap.Should've bent the hooks over. Went back to that area yesterday but to no surprise couldn't hook up with the big guy but I just had to give it a try. That fish would've been tourney lunker and blown away 1st place, and put $3,200 in my pocket. All in all it was a good day.
