Has anybody on here been fly fishing before? I really enjoy it but haven't done it in a while. I use to fly fish in OK on a river that ran threw my grandparents land. It was a blast. I also have a private pond that is clear all around it and pretty much on level ground. I'm going to try fly fishing there this weekend for bream and bass.

Yup, I fly fish when I get the hanckering to do it. LOL I used to go fly fishing for catfish. Yup, you read it right...........catfish. When we stocked the old farm pond we used to fish, we would feed the cats to see how they were growing. Well, I tied a fly that looked like a fish food pellet, and I would lay it on top of some of the bigger piles of the food. The biggest cat I caught was like 15 lbs. and it spooled me 2 times on the little fly rod that I had. I finally got it in it. I caught several 1-5 lbs. cats, along with a lot of trophy sized bluegills, lots of crappies, and a few bass.

I still tie flies from time to time. My Dad bought me a fly tying kit when I was a younger man, and I tied several of the flies in the book, and I tied my Dad a fly for stripers. We never did get the chance to use it, but a friend of ours who fishing for stripers said that it would work, cause the feather I used looked just like a shad. LOL

Ive fly fished a lot when I lived in CT. I use to love fly fishing with poppers and bugs for bass. Even little bream are fun on a fly rod.
However, the most unusual species I use to fly fish for were frogs and copperheads lol Releasing the latter was always entertaining lol

I'm going to start in a couple of days tieing my own flies. I ordered the kit which is a combo to tieing flies and jigs. I'm just waiting for it to come in. What do yall think about tieing flies and jigs???

If you have the patience for tying the flies, it's a great way to pass the time. As for the jigs................that's something that I am going to stay away from. LOL I can tie pretty decent feather jigs, as a mutual friend of ours (RTA guys) has tried them. Not sure if ole BearPaw ever caught any smallies on those jigs that I sent to him or not, but I know that he said that they looked good.

All that it those jigs consisted of were the actual jighead, which was 1/8 oz., I believe, and a turkey feather. LOL I would tie the feather to the head and secure the knot that I used to tie the thread down with some Liquid Nails.

I fished with one that I tied, and the spotted bass on Weiss would tear it up. The jig that I had lasted well over 50 bass. From where I stand, that's a good jig, as most of the ones that are commercially made do not last that long. LOL

So, it all comes down to the level of patience that you are willing to exert in order to create them.
