I was watching College Bass Fishing Championship yesterday on one of the ESPN channels. I thought that was pretty neat ! 8)

Greg Hackney was doing on the water reporting. He reminded me of an announcer in golf. The way they talk real soft ( Like a whisper ) I had to turn the volume up just to hear him :D

Thats pretty cool! I had never heard of this organization until today.

I got a pretty good laugh at the GPA requirement for the participants: 2.0 GPA lol I think you can get a 2.0 by pretty much just showing up for school lol

I wish I saw the televised event. Im going to have to keep an eye open for repeats.
I believe this was the 2nd one. ( last year was the first event ever )

If I heard right, if you, an older person ( like us Jared ) went to college now, we could get in on the action, as it isnt age restricted .

Getting a mental image of Rodney Dangerfield in the movie ' back to school ' lol

Here is the website for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's bass club - I am a recent grad, never had time to officially join their club though...too busy keeping my GPA above 3.5/4.0

I went to a tech scholl at the ripe ole age of 50 !! Now I think I'll go back and see if I can't get a fishin team started LMAO
As you can see by my spelling I must have spent too much time fishing when I should have been in school LOL ::)
Does Texas A&M have a fishing team?
Some of the high schools in the Adirondack region have trout fishing teams. They will also teach shooting. Rodney Jr., I can call him that because he is just a kid, if it's sanctioned by the NCAA then you have used up eligilbilty if you have been in college before. Are you sure you want to fish with a bunch of kids who are learning how to process information, & have complex computer programs coming out the wazoo? I might find it to be a little scary. :lmao: :wack: :wack:

Yes, they do. They fished the Lake Dardanelle tournament for college teams earlier this spring hosted by Arkansas Tech. Oklahoma, OSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and a bunch of other schools (26 teams in all as I recall) participated. This was the second year Tech sponsored the tourney. It was a great event and they plan on doing it again next year and for many years to come. I do have some reservations about the future of the event because it has been put together by volunteers and students and BASS has taken a real interest in this now. I really do not wan't to see BASS or ESPN make a move to begin taking control of these events because the colleges and students have done a great job of getting these programs going. If ESPN sees a way to make a buck out of it, they will try. Can ya tell I do not care too much for ESPN? Sorry, I'll get off my soap box.
A lot of schools have college fishing teams, and if it doesnt it not that hard to make one. I am the team captain of the Penn State Team... i'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
If McNeese State University has a team or starts one within one year I'll be one of the first to join up! :thumbup01: Most people down here are more into saltwater fishing. I like it too but not near as much as bass fishing. :dance01:
