My club championship is this coming weekend and I can hardly wait! I'm in second place for angler of the year with 70.08lbs for the year. Problem is i'm 7.00lbs out and we only wiegh three fish for the points so I got to have a great two days and the leader needs to bomb, a tall order. Plus the tournament is on the Lake of the Ozarks and the FLW just fished there this weekend and it was won in the deep water, my absolute worst techniqe.I want to catch them shallow and I thought I had a pretty good patern figured out but now I don't know. If it was a good patern someone would have figured it out and done something with it don't you all think? Its to late to change now I do have a back up plan and I won't hesitate to try it if the shallow bite dies.

Sure the FLW guys are great anglers. However, just because they won their tournament deep, I'd not abandon the shallow pattern you are on. Especially considering that the fish are more than likely in, or heading into, a fall pattern. Atleast that would be my assumption considering where the rest of the southern US lakes are at the moment. To me, fall means shallow bite is HOT. Backs of creeks, secondary points, etc... all places I'd check very well this time of year.

I know a lot of people preach about versatility but there are some situations where it's best to play your power card and do what you know best. This may be one of those times for you. Work on your deep water weakness when there's less on the line this winter and next spring. Just my two cents :)

I wish you the best of luck, regardless of what pattern you decide to go with, in your championship. Try to get us some pix if you can. We love pictures on The Bassholes :)

The weather was brutal this past week and is probably a big factor to why every one was fishing deep. The first serious cold front of the year.( 90s last week&freezing this week) so I will stick to my guns. My shallow bite has kicked butt in the past with the conditions exactly like they are right now so i'm gonna give it hell. I really appreciate the encouragement seems like if someone will tell me every things gonna be OK I will believe it and you know confidence is everything. I'm working on getting some pix scanned to share. I'm not to slick at this computer stuff seems i'm a reel live ******* and about half scared of this computer. I enjoy this web site alot its a bunch of fun. later, Drew

I stuck to my guns and stayed with the shallow bite and manage to catch enough fish to take third in the championship  I over took the first place angler( blanked both days i can't believe it) for angler of the year, but what I didn't see coming was the third place guy catching me and beating me by 11oz. for the AOY title. So I came in second for the year which I have mixed feelings about. He earned the title and I could have through the course of the year caught 11oz. and didn't so I guess you know what my goal is for next year.   I had 2.2lbs on day one and three fish that weighed 8.05lbs on day two. The weather was brutal. Day one rain and the high of 50 which ain't nothing nice. Day two was bright clear high of 45 with a north wind of 15-20. I caught my fish in less than a foot of water on a chatterbait and a brown jewel jig with a crawfish trailer. I have some pix I will try to get on today.  Drew.       Rich,  I almost forgot my partner caught a 37inch tiger musky on saturday on lake Pomme de Terre it was huge in our eyes but we don't know squat about these fish it was fun for us even though we released it and were not fishing for them.

Thanks to all involved in helping me post my pictures. The three big fish which is what my club weighs individulely weighed 17.08 the toad was 6.13. The 6.13 was big bass for the year and the 17.08 is a club record for three fish. The big one took a swipe at my spinnerbait and missed I nearly died when I saw her miss, but I pitched back to the spot and blam she took it and I nearly went Ike. I had a nine pound lead for the AOY and went on to lose the title by .11ozs i'm still in shock. I was just having one of those tournaments where I just didn't think I was doing what I needed to do to finish well and then I come that close in the end. NEVER GIVE UP. Someone should coin that phrase don't you think? peace out, Drew

Thats right, like Ike says "Never give up!"

You did an excellent job even if you did miss the title by .11 oz! 3 Fish almost 18 pounds is excellent!
