Im not sure but your question has my curiosity now.

I wonder whats to gain?

Does it somehow place him more in the middle of the lakes FLW in that area of the country fishes? Or perhaps he just found a good deal on a nice house?

Well, I live in MN, and I fail to see how that would help centralize for tournaments. I have always thought that I would move from here if I fished tour level events. I am thinking he may still be working a regular job outisde of fishing and that had brought him to the area. I guess I would like to meet him, if he in fact is residing in the Minneapolis area.
