Boat Control

I noticed Skeet Reese was fishing current and wind during the classic. When Skeet was fighting his bass the boat kept it's position via GPS, it would drift with the current and wind, then self correct holding exactly in the same postion. This must be something new with Motorgiude or MinnKota that Ive missed. The digital tracking feature would not hold a position, it would track a course.
I can't tell you how valuable it is to have your boat stay in position while you are away from the trolling motor in the wind and how long it takes to reposition the boat when fishing outside isolated structure. What an advantage that is!

Tom, I think this system has been around for a couple of years or so. I have never seen one but it is designed to self correct and can keep a person exactly the same distance off shore and on select targets. I don't know what these run but I know it's more than this poor boy can afford and my boat control is so bad I am the one who needs it most!! :D
I know the past couple years Motorguide and Minnkota have been getting into autopilot models but it was always my understanding that they follow depth contours. If there is a GPS controlled one that is pretty awesome but I bet its very expensive. Though I ask myself, how much lazier are these pros going to get? They are slowing getting electronics to do all the work for them which in my eyes, is taking a lot of the need for skills out of the sport. I mean look, they now have electronic fish attractors, under water cameras, electronically controlled anti-backlash and now autopilot gps controlled trolling motors.

Though I gotta admit, if I could afford them all, I'd use them all too lol

Motorguide has PTSv tracking GPS system and didn't know it would hold a precise position in the wind. The top pro's get some trick stuff and need to check this out.

There is no doubt that technology is far outpacing my ability to understand it. The proof in the pudding is the fact that I can't even understand the darned instruction manuals!! :fineprint:
it would be my luck if i for some odd reason had the money to blow, i'd get it and by the time i figured out how to use it they would have something a hundred times better, then i'd want that, get my butt whupped by Kylie for trying to order it online with a near maxxed out credit card( i know this from trying to get a bio-sonix :D) then where would i be???its just a vicious cycle. Im just content with my boat and a wife that doesnt mind me spending a great deal on fishing gear or getting up with me at 4 am the morning of a tourney on her day off, hell she even fishes with me, so i wouldnt want to make too many waves. The new Motorguide has a module that mounts near the GPS antenna that controls the trolling to "anchor" and was included as a option on the Classic boats. You need the electronic control digital trolling motor to add this option.
My 2 year old digital Motorgiude is the old cable control unit, great motor and love it...but to be able to "anchor" and sit on a spot!

I'm 55 going on toward 56. Now if I got all that fancy stuff, I might be able to figure it out by the time I reached 110!!!!! By then, it would be obsolete and so would I! 8)
