I don't know who read about my last trip but this is how it went. 45 degrees, rainy, wet and never even had so much as a bump for 8 hours! Today was redemption. I got on the lake at 8:00am which was really 7:00am. The water temp was 43 degrees still cold as all get out, I headed to the flats with a long pole to dip for crappies ( I'm hungry) I caught three of these lethargic creatures and was ready to start Bass fishin went the first victim of the day blows up on a shad about a half a cast from the boat. I took out my LC and made one cast and BOOM! about a 3lber. I'm thinkin cool I'm done crappie fishin. So I watch and cast for about thirty minutes with no other takers so I go to the point I have been fishing all year long first cast, wack another 3 I was in the fish. The damn white bass were mixed in with the LM my thumb is raw I stayed on the point for 2 and 1/2 hours just smoking them. I even caught one on a red rattle trap. I was trying out all kinds of different stuff but the LC ghost minnow was the bomb. They finally quit biting but I figured I had about 15lbs for the day (five fish) and I never got that big bite. I am definitely a happy camper. Peace out. Drew

Sounds like you had some fun with the school fish. Did you try a spook or Sammy on top? a spoon underneath? or a jig deep? thats where the bigger bass should be looking for a easy meal the schoolies injured.
Tom
I never threw topwater didn't even cross my mind until I saw a local pro at the ramp with a buzz bait tied on. I couldn't get on top of the fish or it would have spooked them the water is too shallow 4-10 foot. I dig drag a jig and a tube but I couldn't get any takers. I guess I should have tried my beloved drop shot but like I said I was having a good day and the drop shot probably would've ruined it for me. I struggle with it to say the least.

When the bass are trashing bait fish like that, you are better off using something flashy like the spoon ripped off the bottom or a shad colored swim jig like spider twin tail grub. Spooks work better than a buzzer on flat water.

Sounds like a nice day. As your weather warms you will be having more and more days just like that.
Way to go Drew, sounds like you had some well deserved fun on the water. If you got one throw a little rebel and let it sink through the school, big mamma can't stand it
Drew,
Congrats on the sandpaper thumb!!!!!

Where do you live? I've got my first tourney in 2 weeks and I noticed you said the water was in the low 40s. Just trying to get an idear of what I'll be up against. I was out on one of our generating station cooling lakes this weekend and it was 65, but all of the ponds around it are still frozen. Thanks.
I'm on the lake of the ozarks in missouri. If you come down to fish let me know I'll do what I can for you.
I'm happy you had a great day!
So the ice has thawed? I need a day like that. So far this year has sukkt.
Awesome Drew sounds like a good day! Dave
Today is my rest day. Gotta tourney on sat. I'm fishing thurs, fri, sat. All those doubles I worked are getting cashed in. The lake temp is really coming up. Upper 40's now.
Well you better rest up brother got a tourney to win! Dave
Good luck in your tourny you know we want daily updates if possible.
Upper 40's don't you mean upper 50's!! The bass haven't thawed out yet. Good luck, your going to need it. Maybe you should consider just drop shot, hold the rod out and your shivering will be all the action needed.
Tom
Good luck Drew, remember to hold ya mouth right and if all else fails I like Tom's advice. :fishing02:
I got a decent jerkbait bite going and the warm weather might stir the jig bite up.
