Oneida Boat Ramp Dedication Nov. 6

Frankfort, Ky. – Clay County Judge-Executive Carl Sizemore, Clay County Fiscal Court members and employees of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will dedicate Kentucky’s newest boat launch ramp at noon, Friday, Nov. 6, in Oneida.

Legislators, state and county officials, and outdoors enthusiasts will dedicate the new access on the South Fork of the Kentucky River as the Oneida Boat Ramp. The new ramp provides a single lane boat ramp and parking for up to 10 vehicles and boat trailers.

The ramp is a partnership effort of Clay County Fiscal Court and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. County government purchased the site from the local school board. County officials in turn leased the property to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, which built the ramp. Under the lease terms, the county will provide general maintenance.

“This is a great example of what can be accomplished when state and county governments work together,” said Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Deputy Commissioner Benjy Kinman. “We were able to direct federal Sport Fish Restoration dollars to this project. Access into the South Fork of the Kentucky River has been limited, so this new ramp will provide the necessary recreational access to hunters, anglers, boaters and others who love the outdoors.”

The dedication will be at the new boat ramp, located on Newfound Road near the Oneida Elementary School. Persons interested in attending the dedication may take U.S. 421 North from Manchester to Highway 11 and then north to Oneida. Once in Oneida, stay straight on KY 66, then take a left across the bridge onto Newfound-Oneida Road. The ramp is to the left. Directional signs mark the route.
