Hey MO,I don't know if this will help or not. While back I use a 4inch drop shot worm on Lake Gaston and used it around grass and caught a lot of bass on it,all thing I did was make a 1/4oz jig head and put the screw lock on them and seemed to last longer. The baits where bought from JDC BAITS and was black in color.I hope this helps. That is what I began fishing with when using shakey heads.

Just because the technique is finnese doesn't mean it has to be slow. You can cover water with it efficiently, not as quickly as a crank or spinnerbait, much quicker than say a "t"rigged worm. You are able to use it as a "spot" checker, say different areas on a dock or along a rip rap wall, etc. It is not always a finnese worm rigged weedless, an open hook can be used in minimal cover to good effect, as someone mentioned, you can wacky rig a worm, you can use it to swim a worm. The technique lends itself to quite a bit of versatility, don't be afraid to experiment.

Good tip Rodney...Thanks...I'll give that a try...I have to give this technique some dedictaed water time and get my confidence level up on it.
One of the things I'll have to overcome with this presentation most likely is my impatience when fishing. I always feel like I have to be moving, moving, moving. It's a problem I've always had when fishing...

Re: ARTICLE: Sure Bet For Summer Bass? Try a Simple Shaky Head

You don't have to use a "shakey" worm, you can use a craw or creature or tube. Something different, & sometimes that makes a difference. I am starting to use 10lb braid with no leader, Fireline is the same diameter as 4lb mono, & Spider Wire stealth is the same as 2lb mono. When the bite is subtle it really helps. I have no problem fighting the fish with a 7' med action spinning rod. Mo, try "shaking" as the bait falls, this will help it get down through the weeds, the real problem is the hangups but if it is the only way to get fish it's no problem.

I love the shakey head here in S.C. I make them my self. I pour them by the 100. People buy the crap out of them here. It will put fish in the boat all year long even in the winter time. I make the football type, they work best for me. I also rig them with a craw around rocks. They are awesome. bassin101mg.

Here in Alabama, the shaky head is my go to bait. I love to fish them near and around docks.. This is one bait I know that can beat the Heat..
