We usually use bluegills, but another good bait which no one has mention for big flatheads are small bullheads. The bullheads are kinda hard to come by but they work really well. A bullhead is a smaller species of the catfish family. You can google image them to see what they look like. Good luck!

Bullheads are a great bait, but unless they come out of the water your fishing, I wouldn't use them. Alot of species get moved around from water to water this way.
I like to use what is available from where I am fishing.
A typical day catfishing, one would find me first thing throwing a cast net for my bait. I carry 3 at all times as they get snagged often.

i feel that the cats prefer live bait over anything else actually. What i do is go to a local farm pond, catch a ton of bluegill, cut them up into about 4" pieces and put them on a size 4 or 6 bait-holding treble hook. Works like a charm.

Here's one that our very own Muskygirl from here on TheBassholes caught this summer on live bait (if I'm not mistaken)

I love using live blue gill and at this local pay lake gold fish. However, the pay lake has since banned any live baits because of too many people not paying attention and tangling up the guy down the ways line with theirs. I have seen some real mean brawls occur on big money nights over tangled lines.
