Default What oil do you use as the base for your scents?

What oil do you use for the base scent in your plastics? I am not asking what flavor. I am asking if you create your own scents, what oil is the base? I am sure some one out there creates their own. I have my own ideas on how to flavor oil, but not sure which one to start with. I want to be able to add it to the bag. I do not generally make my own baits, but many of the plastics i do purchase are not scented. I would like to change this.
I do NOT want to buy pre-made scents, or pre-made oils either. The exception to that rule is 100% anise oil, but i all ready have that for culinary purposes.

Thank you
Brandon

I don't use oil. I use petrolemu jelly and add stuff like garlic powder and salt to it. I put it directly on the bait instead of in a bag.

JIg man, you not the first I have heard mention using pertoleum Jelly as the base for some homemade scent, I may have to give this a try, I also have a lot of worms that dont have scent already added. Doesnt the petroleum jelly have a scent of its own or does this not matter, when you add the garlic to it.

While petroleum jelly would work for the garlic and salt, it will not work for my needs. I suppose i could just use straight cooking oil, but i am afraid the flavor might be a little to strong. I am still open to ideas.

I'm sure we all have our snack foods in the boat for that quick pick-me-upper in the boat. Vienna sausages seem to be universal, but nutritionally they pretty well suck. I like canned smoked oysters that come in tins that resemble sardine cans, little flat things with a pop-top. Anyhow, they are packaged in soybean oil, which has a pretty strong odor, and leaves quite a slick when a plastic bait is dipped in it. I usually eat the oysters first. That's my scent, and I'm sticking to it. It works for me.

I don't think it would be a problem. I have a grub I make that is done one at a time and the plastic has to be injected. The tubes have to be oiled after every shoot in order the keep the baits fully forming. I dip a Qtip in cooking oil and swab the tubes before I inject and it has had no ill effects on the number of fish that the grubs produce.

Lets see some pics of the grub.

I hope Brandon doesn't mind too much and call me a hijacker. Here is a sample of them.

I also had to make some injectors. Cattle syringes are what I have used from my vet.

Vegetable and peanut oil, cod liver oil and glycerin is what I have seen used in homemade recipes. Things like anise seed, coffee grounds and garlic salt being strained out before use. I suppose you could leave them in and do a test.

My late buddy Walter used to buy the Berkley scent in professional strength. You know, the one power baits smell like only 100 times stronger. I would be using the trolling motor on the front of my 19'6" Stratos, and the wind blowing toward the back of the boat, and when Walt opened his worm juice on the back deck, I could smell it even if I was looking the other way. He mixed it with petroleum jelly.
