Default wake shad...what say you?

i have heard a few things about strike king's wake shad. everything is very good or very bad! then i watched the pro journal tv show and mark davis was talking how easy it was to fish and how you cant get it wrong. i know he is paid to say that and he designed it. anyone have real life experience? i heard they are real fragile and break easy. SK claims it is good for musky too. please help me save $20 or invest in this awesome fish magnet!

Like you I have read a lot of complaints about durability issues. What I don't know is if anybody took up the issue with Strike King. I think Strike King is a good company and would stand behind the lure if there was a problem, especially with a bait that costs what that one does.

I am a huge fan and avid user of both the King Shad and the Wake Shad.
I also had some durability issues with the King Shad. I broke a fortune of them and Chris Brown at Strike King replaced several after I sent in the halves I had left.
Strike King absolutely stands behind it's products.

The key is be careful! Every King Shad fatality was a direct result of a hard errant cast into a boat house, dock etc. Besides, people hate it when you ping their property, lol! I have just become a little more selective when casting into tight cover with my $20 bait. My Rapalas don't survive hard knocks all that well either, come to think of it...

As for the Wake Shad, be sure to use a rod that has a limber tip. I lost alot of fish until I went to a medium action rod. The way fish hit this bait, you will lose a lot of fish with the stock trebles. Be sure to let the fish take the bait before setting the hook, as with any topwater.

Which brings me to a different but related topic:
Nothing ticks me off more than to hear KVD tell me to switch out the hooks on my $20 bait...And he's very right on the Wake Shad.
For $20 it should have exactly the best hardware to perform at it's best.

I have a lot of the same feelings as everyone else. The Strike King Wake Shad is well worth the money and I'd highly recommend it.

I had a defective wake shad, (it was probably my fault). I e-mailed Strike King, and they replaced it no questions asked. It's important to maintain the reputation that a company, like Strike King, stands behind their products and replaces them quickly should a problem occur. I would not think twice before buying another Strike King product.
