Lake Fork Guide David Ozio Fishing Report 2-10-14

Cold temps have been the topic of the past several weeks but that hasn't stopped the bass on Lake Fork from cooperating. During this past month, the warm days have provided some incredible action, especially when water temps have reached 50 degrees. Lately, water temps have ranged from 38-43 degrees and most anglers have stayed away from the lake.

These cold water temps aren't always a bad thing, especially this time of year. The call of nature is starting the bass into the staging process and the big females are shallow, even on the coldest days. Proof is in the pudding and the guide tournament that we had last weekend showed that several fish over six pounds went to the net with the biggest of the day being a 7.86. I know of several boats who had fish over seven pounds and guides that told me they lost bigger fish at the net. Quite amazing considering the day was foggy and cold.

Warmer temps are in the forecast for the next two weeks and the trap bite should be off the chart. In areas of the lake that are void of grass, I see the fish moving shallow and holding to wood. Texas rig craw worms, shaky heads with straight tail worms should do the trick for those fish. I have a few open dates for the rest of February so contact me and join in the fun.
