HAPPY FISHING

Nice job Gup. You want to catch a mess of great catfish, go to Lake Brittle and throw some junk on the floor around the fishing pier. The Big Girl never had so much fun. I didn't catch a thing because I was too busy taking 3 and 4 lb cats off the hooks of TBG and our niece. Squeals galore!

"Squeals galore!"

:lmao: That is the mark of a man who's seen the elephant and knows what's important in this life. I can actually picture the lasses catching those cats now. :thumbup01:

Jaison, everytime the bobber dipped, the noise was deafening. We wound up with an audience of about 20 people on the pier and the bank laughing and applauding. The girls were on fire that day. Just a worm on a hook laying on the bottom and the cats were going crazy. It lasted for almost an hour and was a memory I will never lose.

Years later, The Big Girl and I were with the wine group in Orange county. I sprained my ankle and couldn't make the day trips with the group into Charlottsville to drink wine and buy overpriced prayer rugs. Instead, TBG and I stayed behind at Miss Allison's place and caught fish from her stock tank. There was a short pier over the water and on the opposite bank was Miss Allison's Boy Friday mowing the pasture.

TBG said."Throw the bait over by the far bank. I want to catch a catfish." So I cast out as directed and handed her the rod. Two minutes later she is battling a 5 lb cat that was fat as a pig. The guy mowing the pasture almost had a stroke. She caught two or three more slightly smaller cats before quitting for the day. We donated over 2 dozen nightcrawlers to Boy Friday who couldn't thank us enough.

How in the world she knew those cats were hiding alongside that steep bank is a mystery to me to this day. Over the years, I have learned to listen more - especially to her.

Hawghunter if your in Orange you`ve probably been to Orange lake.My best memories of fishing when my daughter was 2.She was trying to beat the ducks to death and laughing her pampers off with her pole and I noticed the bobber was gone (it was one of those fist size ones) so I sat here on my lap and started reeling it in when Bam she had caught a huge bass.It was great.

Thanks Guppy for the extensive list. I was getting worried that I was leaving NJ which has an abundance of fishing spots and relocating to VA. where there are less opportunities. I need a good map to scope out the areas. How many of these are in the Richmond area ( say an hour drive in any direction) ? Also, any suggestions on what map to buy that shows fishing areas ??
Good Luck and Good Fishing !!

Stealth- welcome to the Old Dominion! I think you will find the people, history and climate (disregard this winter ;)) to be pretty easy to live with. We are the Seedbed of the Republic and the Birthplace of Presidents. The fishing's pretty good, too!
One tip, if I may... the sooner you're able to sprinkle a few 'ya'lls' and 'reckons' in your conversations with Virginians, the easier it'll be. :lmao:

I hope you find a new home in the Commonwealth. :thumbup01:
