Default Transporting canoe

Looking to buy a old town canoe and wondering what would be the best way to transport it. I have a 05 f150 with the 6.5 bed,

Do you have a ladder rack on it?

I used what's referred to as a half rack, which bolted behind the cab. I built a rack which fit in the holes at the rear of the bed, which was lower than the front half-ladder rack by a couple of inches. Load the canoe from the rear. I then used bungees and a cinch strap to secure the canoe to the two of them. Whatever you do you don't want to rest the canoe on the painted part of the truck even if you have foam between it and the truck. Now at my advanced age I use a trailer which is easiest.

Thank you, Thats a good idea. I don't want to scratch the paint on the cab.

When I had a canoe, here's what I did. Old or scrap of rug for tailgate and where hit the back of the bed too. Slide canoe in upside down. My truck had cleats in corners of the bed. Hooked a ratchet tie down to then making an x on the canoe. I made slits in rug on top of the canoe where tie down rested. This keeps the x perfect on it and protects the canoe. Don't forget to put a red flag or a red rag on end. Drivers sometime don't pay attention to what's in front of them.
