Default How do you make a frog "walk the dog"?

I have tried and tried to get a "walk the dog" presentation from my frogs. I have tried with every frog in my arsenal. From my Spro Bronzeye frogs, Snag Proof frogs and my recently Koppers Live Target frogs. I've tried trimming one of the leg skirts a bit shorter and with different line types. How do you folks get the "walk the dog" presentation??? Thanks.

I tie a loop knot, usually leaving a SMALL gap between my line and the hook eye. This will let the frog move freely from side to side. I also trim not 1 leg, but two, and i trim them WAY down. I leave maybe an inch of skirt sticking out. Twitch the frog on a slack line and it will walk a bit from side to side. Bronze eye popping frogs work very well for this. You can also walk a few other brands, but if i wanted a weedless "spook" i would use the Money Hound. I rig the shorter ones on a 5/0 Moaner Stroker hook. They walk well, they fly remarkably well, and they skip under docks and trees better than any frog i have ever fished.

Hope it helps
Brandon

Thanks Brandon. I'll give those tips a try tomorrow. Of course, I'm not expecting any hits from these frogs right now, but I'm wanting to practice this presentation. Thanks a million friend.

Getting a frog to walk the dog takes lots of patience! I tried to get mine to do it but he keeps eating the frog!

Sorry, bad joke... couldnt resist. lol

The most important thing to do is trim the legs way back...both....
This will help for skipping as well as walking the dog. Then with the rod tip down, use the same action you would for any walk the dog lure, but with a more subtle action.

First off Go Bucks!

Second off, how I walk the dog in general with the rod is I point the rod at a 45% angle with the rod tip down towards the water. With a slack line I just kind of snap my wrist down and then back to that 45 degree angle. The whole time I do this I watch the lure and as it gets to the end of its motion I snap it again which causes it to come back. While snapping it I slowly take in the line. I try to keep the same slack in the line the whole time. I also love pausing it and finding cadences that really trigger the fish. I found that if I walk it sometimes for 4-5 snaps and then pause and do it again that the fish just hammer it on the pause.

Also, one key thing and I know most don't but I love using a shorter rod for this. No more then a 6'6" and I prefer 6'. The reason being, I might be 5'9" but I have short legs so if I use my 7 foot rod I find my tip hitting the water a lot.

Hope that helps.
