After I added split rings to mine, it was very easy to get a good walking action with even light twitches. Try to develop a cadence where you reel the slack between each jerk.

just wached him say that today!

The most important thing is having extra sharp hooks ! I had a number of hits a couple of weeks back , missed them all . Finally checked my hooks , that was my problem . Changed them all before my Tx , big difference !

Original Spooks came with 2 hooks on fixed hangers, I believe the Super Spooks have 3 hooks on split ring hangers. I always change the hooks on spooks to be on split rings and use Owner Stinger series or VMC; size 1 treble for Super Spooks. I also use Berkley's Cross-Loc snaps on Super Spooks, split rings on smaller Spooks.
Chicken feathered (white/chartreuse) rear treble is also a great addition to a Spook.
Use a shorter handle rod so your wrist is free to work the rod smoothly and practice the zig-zag walk the dog movement. Mono line like Berkley's Big Game also helps the lure to swim and glide freely. Adding 3' of fly line dressing near the lure to help the line stay dry and float better is another helpful hint with any top water lure.
Fall is a good time to fish Spooks over main lake points for migrating bass looking for baitfish.
Good luck.
Tom

Yes, the orginals had the fixed hangers. As you can see by these pics, I also like to add split rings to my Spooks. I believe it lessens the amount of leverage the fish can get on the lure when trying to throw it.
I dress some of the rear hooks on some of my Spooks as well. This year I tried something new and decided to try dressing them with MindaLures Crankbait Tails...

Good idea Mo

I've always thought that a little extra something on the back end of a topwater couldn't hurt none.

Here's another idea.

Use a double hook on the back...add one of these things called "hitchikers"...and add a doubletail grub
