if you're going pop-r style and willing to pay lucky craft prices, spend a few extra dollars and pick up a megabass pop-x or popmax. I have a few of each and they are awesome. The detail is unholy, and they have unique water chambers made into them that spit water and make a helluva ruckus. Best popper i've ever fished. The pop-x is the smaller of the two.

Can't say I've ever used a g-splash and haven't heard a whole lot about them.

Here is what I think.

Look around at your local tackle stores and see if they might still have some Berkley Frenzy Poppers left. The Frenzy Popper was discontinued for this year but I'm sure they are still on the shelf at some places. The Frenzy is an outstanding bait and at retail price inexpensive for a quality popper.

Lots of guys swear by Rapala Skitter Pops and they are what I used before the Frenzy Poppers, but the Skitter Pops are kind of light unless you go with the big one. Also it's worth buying a couple of Chug Bugs as they are inexpensive.

Yellow Magic's, Megabass, Iovino Splash-It's and Rico's have outstanding reputations but they come at premium prices the same or even higher than the G-Splash. I've heard the Zell Pop is pretty good too and that is a little more moderately priced.

i have both sizes and really like them. i throw topwater alot and these seem to catch fish! i also really like the rapala skitter pop, it makes a "bloooop" type sound that really gets em to hit it. i have not bought a popmax or rico yet and not sure i will. i have also tried the heddon spit-n-image, its ok but not worth buying. i wouldnt be afraid to buy the lucky craft, good stuff.

I have thought about buying one of the Lucky Craft topwater lures , I just can't convince myself its worth that much. What I use most of the time is a Chug Bug because you can fish it a lot of different ways. You can pop it, walk it or make it spit. I don't think the paint job makes a whole lot of difference on a topwater bait. I have some with most of the paint knocked off and they catch fish as well as ever.

Or you can go to predatorbassbaits.com and pick yourself up some popmax (very similar) blank's and send them to me to paint and you still have only paid 1/2 the price of a new one...! Just a little tip.. I use them all the time and work exactly as the megabass popmax....

I own every bait mentioned and can tell you they all work well but on different days. The G-Splash is more of a water spitter than a popper so the G-Splash works better as a finesse popper. I think it is worth the price as I have caught a lot of fish on it over the past couple of years. Stay away from the LC S-8 popper as it does not work any better than a $4 Rebel popper. The Megabass baits work for me but they are not outstanding? They will get another chance this year. For poppers I think everyone needs a bone colored Rebel and a Storm chug bug as they are cheap and flat out work. My top 3 poppers are : G-Splash 65 in baitfish silver, Excaliber Zell Rowland signature popper, Old Rebel bone colored pop-R.

The tackle shop here sells a whole lot of lucky craft. I think they're really good looking and have no doubt they'll catch fish. I just can't convince myself to spend the money. I catch a lot on Zara Spooks and Devils Horses...
