Default Which Skirt material?

I usually use silicone that is already cut and make my own, but read about living rubber a lot too.
What is the best?
Cheapest?

Dchance, your best bet would be to ask Doug aka Hawgthrasher . He`ll know the best one.

I use both silicone tabs and living rubber. The best I have been able to do on pricing as an individual is to buy the silicone from www.fishingskirts.com by the 100 so I can get the best brake. I buy living rubber by the pound which is cheaper than any other way I have found.

Living rubber is probably some cheaper but a whole lot more time consuming to attach.

I like silicone tabs...Living Image is some nice stuff...I use very little rubber...You will find prices ranging from $1.75 per pack up to 3.50 per pack, with regular silicone tabs being on the lower end of that price range, and Living Image being up on the upper end....most come packaged 10 tabs to a pack. If you buy in bulk, you can save some money, but may also have some waste if they haven't been stored properly, or if you don't use them all in a reasonable timeframe, you may find them hard to work with.

I don't just go after price. I look for a place that is reliable, has a well rounded color slection, reasonable shipping costs and has a quality product. I have ordered from some before that I got a great price, but it was apparent the product was either old, or had been stored poorly and had 25% of the tabs that weren't usable. I prefer to find a place where I can order all the product I need at once...Skirt material, collars, paint, Klearcoat, weedguards, jigs, etc, etc...everything I need one stop shopping and one shipping cost.

Myself, I use DoItMolds 90% of the time for all my jig building materials. Good prices, great quality, outstanding customer service, and they have always had product in stock I was looking for.

thanks guys... I also use silicone tabs that I either get locally or from Stamina inc. or Janns Netcraft. I have just never even looked into the rubber and was curious at comparing it. Looks like I will stick with silicone tabs.

call bubba at Rat Trap Bait Co. he sells layers for 9 cents a piece. He is the one who makes all the skirt material for Janns, Barlows, and other companies like that. Why pay mark up at net craft when you can buy direct from the source

I like the silicone for the colors available and am especially fond of the Nature's Edge product. But, I like the action of the living rubber better. It flares out when on the bottom where silicone seems to hang there.

Derek,

You're starting to worry me............. it must be winter!

Drive down tomorrow and we'll fish Table Rock..............

I use silicone tabs, living rubber, round rubber and 1/8" flat. Mix and match to produce various looks. I just tied up 12 for this weekend on Table rock using 1-1/2 tabs of silicone and round rubber combinations. I hand tie which allows you to vary the amount of flare in the skirts.

JE I wish I could....lol
We will definitely get together and fish in the near future. I also would like some tips on tying them as opposed to the rubber collars. I also tie, but I make the skirt with the rubber first, put it on the jig, and then wire tie.
