If you cannot see your transducer on the back of the boat, it is probably mounted inside the boat. It would be epoxied onto the inside of the hull somewhere around the area of you bilge pumps. Most fiberglass boats now have the transducers mounted inside the hull. Not knowing what type unit you currently have in the console, its hard to say if you could use the same transducer for both. I would reccomend getting a separate transducer for the bow mounted unit and mount it on your trolling motor, that way you will be seeing what is right under you and not under the back of the boat. Its much more efficient to go this route, and a lot easier to stay on the structure your fishing.

if you contact lowrance toll-free Customer Service line at 1-800-628-4487. You can ask them if you can use the same transducer. Tell them what you want to do. Ask them about one transducer. They well explain it to you. With the x-5 they well tell you what you can use.

I think you can put a gps/finder there, but again ask them. Hope this helps out.

Asking them is best, but I will tell you, DON'T use 1 transducer. There's a lot that can change underwater in 20 feet, the lenght of your boat. All you'll see on your front graph is what you already passed. It'd be like driving with only your rear-view mirror. A second transducer isn't that expensive to add. The majority of the cost is in the second unit. It's definately better to pay the extra $50-$100 for the second transducer. You'll be much happier in the long run.

A transducer should come with your new unit, but just in case I would make the call to Lowrance to be sure if it is compatible. This weekend, where I was fishing, at time the stern of my 16 footer was shallower or deeper than the bow by up to 6 feet, you'll want a ducer on the bow.
