Default In the weeds

Tried my luck at a little pond next to the lake I usually fish. The pond is shallow, at the deepest not more than 6' I'd think and very weedy, with patched of lily pads covering the surface and the clean sections being full of vegetation about 1' to 2' down. The lake on the other hand is crystal clear with huge drop offs and it isn't uncommon to see down into the water 20' or so. It's nice having two bodies of water that are so different so close to one another. So far no luck on the lake, but the pond yielded these two guys this morning...

The first one took on the unweighted bubblegum worm on a 5/0 offset hook on the fall about 5' from shore in at most eighteen inches of water. He put up quite a fight and I thought I'd hooked into something much bigger.

Fish #2 hit the same setup in somewhat deeper water. He slammed the worm on the drop but I didn't set the hook in time, was reeling back slowly when he made another pass and I was able to hook up.

-Great day on the water!

Default Good 'uns!

So have you been fishing in that pond this year?

I'm hoping the ice has melted in my own home lake!
Tight lines!
