I'm really new to fishing. I've been a few times since I got my pole and license last month, but I've never caught anything yet. I live in Kentucky and there is NO LIMITS on Yellow Bass and everything I've read about them says they are tasty fish. I got into fishing for two reasons, for food and to keep my sanity.

So, my big question is for someone who has NO experience with knowing what a fish tugging on the end of a line feels like, and has already lost several hooks, jig baits, weights and bobbers to getting snagged in rocks and crap...what are the best types of hooks, lures, baits, weights, etc. for us noobs? :fishing01:

Went to Wally world today and just decided that I would look for specifically bass hooks and a bass fishing kits. I got exactly what I required for whatever type of bass that's swimming around out there and crappie too. Got some 25 lb. test weight line and a really nice bass fishing tackle kit with a compartmentalized tackle box.

So, whatever sort of bass I catch I'm pretty sure I have the right everything for the quest!

25 pound test line is going to reduce your number of hits and your catch. get a few $1 spinnerbaits from wally world. white, black, chartreuse. a couple of minnows like a rapala- inexpensive ones work, too, in silver and gold. a couple of inexpensive crankbait - firetiger and shad colors are good. lipless baits(rattle trap) in silver. crappie fishing is a horse of a different color. frankly i sometimes fish with line that is too heavy and i'm sure it has cost me bites. you do not have to buy the $7 baits to get started CATCHING fish.

They are yellow bass, they are like cockroaches! they will take a lake over and eat all the baitfish so that other species get stunted or start to die from no food, the last two years before they renovated lake 11(cunningham) they were so bad when i would be putting to my catfish spots they would explode on the surface and land in my boat like asian carp.true story! the good thing about it is i got free bait out of it alot of the times i went out, i caught some real nice channels using them as cut bait and live bait, but never heard of them being good to eat although they cant be too different than white bass and myself i love to eat white bass, as some people(neighbors to the north) consider them worse than carp. P.S. ive used them at s.b. and caught cats with them this year, but nothing to right home about..... just my 2cents
