How are you guys fishing it?? We had a chat about it Tuesday but not everyone was there so let's get some here. Thumbs Up!

I have been fishing Lake Conroe lately and have found a couple of things I haven't really tried before to be some fish catching tactics.

The first new technique, for me anyway, is slow cranking a 5/8 One Knocker in about 15-25' deep. I cast that bad boy as far as I can and let it fall on slack line. Once it hits bottom I slowly take up the line with the reel and keep my rod tip right at the water surface almost pointed directly at the trap.
I just crawl it along. The bites haven't been all that explosive but more of a heavy feeling. They have been quality bites as well. We have cuaght 3 from this area that went 5 lbs easy.

The second thing I have changed this summer is worm color. I am a basic when it comes to worm color. I don't get all crazy with and stick to the natural hues. However, I am now using more worms with red as their main color. Alot of redbug lately. I will rummage through the worms bags and look for the watermelon red that is more red than watermelon.

The main staple to my deep water fishing though is  Hawg Thrasher shaky heads. I throw a 3/8 on 12 lb fluoro for my deeper stuff. Usually rigged with a SK Ocho that I shorten by about 2".

After that is my goto for quantity and that's the 3/16 shakey head with a 5" Zoom finesse worm.

The bite has been early here. Once that sun comes up it is all but over.

I would love to hear some of your ideas!!! Thumbs Up!

Our fish are tough here in Florida , as I been getting my fish from 2 foot - 6 foot of water lol.

My main lures have been using a lipless crank ( wild shiner and a sexy shad colors) and using a ' trickworm ' to flip the medicane grasses.

I know I probably would get a better quality of fish out deeper, but I just dont have the confidance in it. So I stick to what I know, and know I have to grind it out.

Before the boat blew up, we were catching them in 25-35 feet out on the points and channels.  Had to use either 1oz jig,  a c-rig with a big craw, (Wish I had my mindacraws then) or we were rigging a crankbait behind the c-rig to get it down to them.  If they were suspended, a dropshot, or sometimes a jigging spoon or, little george type spinner would draw a strike.  One thing I havent tried yet is a floating jerkbait behind the c-rig, I have been told it was good for suspended fish.  Gonna give that a go when the boat is fixed.

Out west in our deeper clearer resevoirs, I like to hit the topwater bite off points as early as I can with a Jackall squadminnow. Original Rapala Minnow
If the fish arent hittin on top but are still chasing the bait balls I will drop a weightless 5" Senko in the middle of the bait ball.

As the sun and tempature rises, I prefer to drag a worm over the points in 20-40 feet.  Fishing
Usually drop shot a 4" holographic shad colored roboworm.

Here on Ft Loudon Lake I've been catching most of my bass off of docks, brush and laydowns.  Mainly in 3 to 8 feet using mainly 1/2 oz jigs with baby brush hog trailer.  Then I'll use a 1/2 oz sexy shad lipless around rip rap.  I still have yet to catch a bass on a regular crank bait no matter how hard I tried this year.

For most part I have been using crankbaits and pitching them into trees and brush piles and catch bass like that.Yes,you have to be careful when pitching crankbaits, but with practice and taking your time the rewards are great.I have done this for couple years now and has been fun.

Strike King series 5 and 6 crankbaits in Sexy Shad color on main lake points. Anwhere from 5-15 feet no grass, wood, or ledges...Then dragging a C-Rig in brush piles 10-20 feet in plum or blue flek color!

After the water temp got above 80. I've been useing a watermelon candy brushhawg on a 3/8 shakey head or a green pumpkin 1/2 jig. looking for creek and river channel edges in about 15 to 16 ft of water. But after the sun is up and hot I down size to a 4'' watermelon seed zoom trick worm tipped in chartruse on a shakey head or a baby brushhawg in watermelon candy or green pumnpkin. and look for deep humps or brush. And I will kind of dead stick it wait a few minutes move it 6'' and wait. Or find a creek that has a good current flow and beat the brush points. Then after noon time I just find a shadey bank before I'm fried to a crisp. LOL...
