Originally, we were going to let everyone vote on only the top 5 but there were so many good tips I decided to allow everyone to vote on the top 10 Big Grin

Please read over the ten choices below and choose your favorite. The one tip that gets the most votes will be the winner of The BlueWaterLED Boating Tips Contest and will be the winner of a BlueWaterLED Rod Locker LED Light Kit. Clap

A big thank you to Mike Daleo of BlueWaterLED for making this contest possible and to everyone who participated.

Culling Ropes.
They are made of .095 weedeater cord, 3/32" aluminum crimps, and 3/8" srink wrap.   You can see from the pictures how they are made.  They are very strong, won't rust, float and look good too.

Once you get your culling ropes made from the above post, you will need a place to keep them.  I used a coathangar for this one.  Measure the inside of your livewells lid and cut the coathangar wire about 3" longer than that.  Bend one end to make an L-shape with an eyelet.  Slide a piece of clear tubing over the hangar and bend the opposite end of the wire the same way.  Position the hangar where you want it under the livewell lid and drill two holes to accomodate a stainless steel bolt and nut.  Keeps them from tangled and are in easy reach.  No more fumbling around trying to get your fish out of the livewell.

PS.....pics where taken before I made the new culling ropes.

Emergency: Next time you upgrade your cell phone, keep the old one. Keep it charged and in the boat. In an emergency use it to dial 911. It will still work. This is doublely good if your new one gets wet or is in the drink.

Throw a small bar of soap from a hotel into your bilge.  water will get in and slosh around with the soap and drain when you pull your plug.  Helps keep your bilge area clean.

To better control the water temp in my livewells, I used spray foam to insulate them, similar to a cooler. All I did was spray a thin layer on the outside of the livewells and it did make a big difference in maintaining the water temp. Don't use too much foam since it expands and keep away from circ pumps. Also, although most know this, don't use bag ice to keep water cool; use chunk ice by freezing water in used containers such as cottage cheese, liter soda bottles, etc.

navigation: for a real shocker- go down to your favorite lake or river during a drought, and see all the stuff that you could have ran into with the boat or motor.  It will also make you slow down alot the next time you navigate new waters.

If you have a marker buoy that has a leak don't throw it away. Drill a small hole where the leak is and spray insulation foam into the buoy. Don't spray tooooo much cause it will expand. Trim off any excess that comes out of the hole and you have a repaired buoy.

If your boat doesn't have one of those "seat belt" straps to hold your fishing rods down, you make a quick easy one out easy cheap items

First go to your local hardware store and pick up a pair of eye straps.   Screw them into place on your boat deck

Now just go buy a 6 to 8 inch bungee cord.

Now simply lay your rods on the deck and hook the bungee cord between the two eye straps.  Total cost is probably less than $10 for an on-deck rod hold down system.  Holds rods down fine during choppy water conditions as well as transport behind the truck.  No more kicking rods over board either Smiley

If you keep your boat outside (like I do), this tip may save your windshield from destroying your boat cover.  Cut a piece of that grey foam pipe insulation (the one that has the slit running thru it) to fit over your windshield.  Protects your cover and your windshield.

When fishing by your self you should always let someone know where you might be fishing and always wear your life jacket. I practice for my tournaments by myself most of the time and I practice this rule all the time. You never know when something is going to happen.

Not safety, organization or any of the other topics but this falls under a definite important topic...FOOD!!!

If you would like a hot lunch while on the water simply take a large Thermos and put a pack of hotdogs in it.  In the morning before you head for the ramp, pour boiling water over the dogs and at lunch they will still be hot.  Carry a few pieces of bread and you will have a good hot lunch.  Beats Vienna sausages don't it?

FishingBassnchick's vote is in! I'm all about a hot meal esp. hot dogs, when it's 22 degrees outside & the line freezes in the eyes every time you cast...
